Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Backup Deployment
For the individual user, Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Backup consists of two components:
- The Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Backup Agent runs locally on each protected Windows computer that backs up files in real-time, as they are being saved to disk, to a local, compressed cache. When the computer is connected to a network or locally attached backup device, such as a USB drive, the Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Backup Agent replicates (and optionally encrypts) the data to remote storage vaults.
- The Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Data Vault can reside on any locally attached backup device for Windows or any network file system that supports the CIFS protocol, including Windows server, Linux and UNIX systems running Samba, and most network attached storage (NAS) appliances.
In enterprise deployments, the Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Backup Enterprise architecture entails a third component:
- The Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Policy Server runs on a standalone or shared Windows server. The Policy Server enables definition of enterprise-wide policies for file protection, versioning, data protection, and retention, as well as configuration and monitoring of all Yosemite / Desktop Laptop Backup Agents in the enterprise. A singe Policy Server can support up to 5,000 Yosemite Desktop / Laptop Backup agents.
